James L. Neville


Salt Lake City, UT-James Luke Neville, Jr., aged 76, passed away on March 3, 2024, at St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born on December 18, 1947, in Wiesbaden, Germany, where his father was stationed with the U.S. military, James spent most of his life in Utah. He graduated from East High School and furthered his education at Menlo College in Palo Alto, California, and pursued an art degree from Mount Angel College in Oregon.

James possessed a deep passion for the arts, particularly music, playing the piano, flute, and guitar. He was an active member of both the University of Utah Folk Society and Jazz Society. He was a broadcast DJ for KRCL in Salt Lake. An avid skier, James enjoyed Alta and Brighton ski resorts. He was also a competitive swimmer; swimming AAU meets with the Deseret Gym. Later at East High School, he was All State in the butterfly and medley relay.

A spirited adventurer, James traveled the world, experiencing and embracing diverse cultures and traditions. His vibrant and warm personality made him beloved by many, known for his interesting conversations, his genuine interest in people, and his kindness.

Professionally, James was an insurance agent and broker. He helped manage the Neville insurance agency in Salt Lake for two decades.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James L. Neville, Sr. and Marthlyn (Sally) Apal Burke Neville. He is survived by his brothers, Timothy of Boise, Idaho; Richard (Jane) of Fort Worth, Texas; and William (Cheryl) of Huntsville, Alabama. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews: Britney, Remy, Madyson (Broc) Wadsworth, Katelyn, Morgan, Griffin, Liam, Ian, and Will.

James will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His family invites friends and acquaintances to celebrate his remarkable life on Sunday, April 28th, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, at Encircle, located at 331 S 600 E, Salt Lake City, UT 84102.
