On graduation night 1966 ,my parents and I saw Robert as we walked to our car.He was hesitant to ask us to walk to his new car...but we felt his joy as we walked...During the next year Robert and I spoke on the phone....he faced challenges...I visited him at the VA when he lost his leg in a motorcycle accident..the summer of 1968 I lived and worked at the State Industrial School...on a weekend home,I read the obituaries in the Tribune....unusual for me then...there was Robert's.I went to his funneral.Because he had been in the service,his mother received the precisely folded flag...I still see his full,contagious smile...the twinkle in his eyes...he died too young.
