In Memory

Ruth Toronto

Ruth Toronto

Ruth Ellen Toronto passed away on April 29, 2024, following a long battle with Cancer. She was born on May 24, 1948, to John S. And Ruth Lunt Toronto. She was the oldest of three children. As the oldest, she took that responsibility very seriously. She made sure everyone was taken care of. She was raised in Salt Lake City, and attended Douglas Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High and East High School. She attended the University of Utah and graduated with a Finance degree. Most of her working years were spent in banking and she retired from Wells Fargo Bank.

Following High School, she had the opportunity to work for three summers at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, which she loved. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ruth served in the Paris France Mission from 1969 to 1971, meeting some of her lifelong friends. For about 22 years, she ushered for Salt Lake County, where she was able to enjoy many wonderful events at Abravanel Hall, Capitol Theatre, Eccles Theatre, and Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. She was sorry when health issues became a problem and she could no longer work. She loved her time spent volunteering at Primary Children's Hospital, which she did for a number of years.

She felt grateful to have been born in a good home with a loving and supportive family. She surrounded herself with wonderful friends, teachers and leaders her entire life. She felt blessed that she had been born in this time of the world. She always said, "I was not born a day too soon."

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother John L. Toronto (Coleen), and sister Susan L. Toronto. She is also survived by a nephew and three nieces, whom she loved dearly, and eleven great nieces and nephews.

I worked with Ruth for two summers at Grand Canyon. She was always pleasant and up for a good time. It was always fun to run into her at events she ushered - and there were MANY of them - Ballet, shows, concerts. We always enjoyed reminiscing. Such a sweet and thoughtful person!
