Adam (Harry) Rose notified the website that our classmate, Art Sandack was in a terrible traffic accident in late July that took the life of his wife, Deb Mortensen Sandack (who graduated from East 6 years after we did. She missed her 50-year reunion a week ago). Adam tells us that Art got pretty banged up in the accident and is back in the hospital. I’m sure he would appreciate some good wishes from our classmates accessing his personal profile.

A Reminder - Picnic at Sego Lily Pavillion, Sugar House Park, Sat. Aug. 20, 4-9 pm
Don't be offended if classmates wear masks and stand at a distance yelling at you. There's currently an uptick in COVID.
Highland High is Having a Picnic the Same Day & Place As Us
This is What They're Saying About It
"The East High School Leopards’ Class of ’66 has also scheduled their 56th reunion at a close-by Sugar House Pavilion the same afternoon as we have, yes, on AUGUST 20th, from 4-10 pm! Interesting stuff, huh? From our side, we have agreed to do this, as long as there is a police presence with canines, as we know there is a great chance things can get out of hand! Also, we need a few AED’s to treat potential cardiac events if fisticuffs (or water balloons) start up between the two camps. Salt Lake County Police’s finest have demanded we don’t bring stun guns, mace or bear spray, or arrests will be warranted. Each of the East High crowd will also bring their own food and drinks, like us…although they also have copied our promise of free bottled water to everyone. Let us see whose is the better. By the way, just because they are there doesn’t mean we have to acknowledge them at all. But, maybe they should forgive us for the many slaughters we inflicted on them athletically and academically, if they still have a bad taste in their mouths after all these years."
OH, IT'S ON!

Classmate, Karen Hough Park has written a verse in remembrance of some "In Memory" friends:
I Knew You ! ! !My circle’s been small, I remember you all!
Those that I’ve touched,
Have all meant so much!
New and old friends,
The love never ends.
I can still see your smiles,
Goodbye for awhile!
I made life through,
Because I knew you!To Sue Crawford- You were my friend,
l remember when,
We’d talk on the phone,
While we were at home.
We were young-married,
And our friendship carried.
I remember the day, you moved away.
It was your time to go...
We’ll MISS YOU, you know!To Nita Rowe... Didn’t know what to say,
Since you went away.
You were a good friend,
Way back when.
It’s been awhile,
Since seeing your smile.
You had a good life,
Tho full of strife.
Who knew what would come?
You died way to young!
Life took its twists,
You surely are missed! To Randy Guy Merrick...
We were partners in school,
When life was so new.
Life had begun,
We were so young!
Just a bit shy,
You were such a great guy.
Even with strife,
You had a great life.Your memory is strong,
Tho you’ve all moved on.
Your life was blessed.
You were all the best!

Roger Ball Adds to Memories of Mrs. Hammond
To say she was a character is to hit the nail on the head. My most vivid memory of her was when President Kennedy was shot. We were in her class when it was announced that he had died and we were dismissed from school. She was in tears and of course quite emotional. Those moments made me realize what a caring person she was.
MEMORIES OF TEACHERS (please contribute yours)
In the interest of posting pleasant things, I would like to share some memories of Sophomore English teacher, Theresa Hammond. I invite you to contribute your own memories of her or any other teacher whose life impacted yours. Some of these memories are already posted as comments under the Guest portion of "In Memory," but it doesn't hurt to highlight them here.
Mrs. Hammond's obituary highlights how involved and interested she was in her students. This was certainly true for me and Patricia (Butterfield) Webb. We’ve been sharing memories in general and landed on distinct memories of Theresa Hammond. Pats’ memory:"My desk was right across from hers, so close they were touching. And she used to ask me if I had any candy, probably because I used to eat Stark Mints in class, and would sometimes give me a $5 bill and ask me to go to Petersen’s to buy candy for her just before class was starting and when I asked her what kind of candy she wanted she said to just get whatever I wanted and to get some for me too. She was such a character! I can remember her standing in front of the class and talking about students who called her at night - I think she said when she was in the bathtub. She was so animated! "
My memory
As a sophomore, I think I was pretty obnoxious and self-absorbed, but Mrs. Hammond saw me as being mature and having insight. She gave an assignment to write about Daring To Be Yourself and I wrote a scathing observation of the cliques I saw around me and what you had to do to fit in. She sent it to my parents with a letter praising my courage to speak the truth. In it, she said she loved me and hoped I never changed. Years later, when I got married, she was the only teacher I invited to my Wedding Reception (I would have invited Dow Young, but he died a month before my wedding). She arrived half an hour early because she was so excited to congratulate me and remind me how much she loved me.

(posted Jan. 25, 2016 ) Welcome East High Class of 1966 to your 50 Year Reunion Website!
We consider this site to be a work-in-progress – please contribute to it by contacting us if you can help find missing classmates (everyone is considered to be missing until you create your profile).
This is your website, created to disperse reunion, as well as other information, and also, to allow us to communicate with each other via email. This site has been described by some as our own Facebook; you must be a classmate and be logged in, done by clicking on your name and creating a profile (as sparse or embellished as you wish), in order to communicate with other classmates who have also created profiles.
Our classmate, Richard Murray, was commissioned in 1998, by East High students, faculty, and PTA to produce the above masterpiece. It currently hangs in the south hall of East’s main floor.)
If you need further help, consult your grandchildren or click "Contact Us" located above the iconic phone booth sketched by Cathy Clawson Brady, which graced the cover of our Senior Year Directory. You will receive an answer from Kathy Schoenhals (or Grandma Kass).
IMPORTANT UPDATE
If you are trying to send a private message to a classmate and think they are not responding, be sure to check the envelope icon (top right corner) for messages. If there are no messages there, you might try looking in your personal email junk folder. Classcreator will never send you spam. Please whitelist or add to your contact list anything coming from:
