Thomas Thorum

Thomas George Thorum Aug. 17, 1937 - Jan.12,2025

In Loving Memory
Centerville, Utah -Born August 17, 1937 to Elmer and Oleah Thorum, the eldest brother to John and Paul.
Raised in Salt Lake City and Bountiful, Utah, he graduated from South Davis High School and served in the National Guard prior to attending the University of Utah. Upon receipt of his degree he began a 35 year career, teaching mathematics and coaching at East High School and the Fort Douglas Country Club. He touched the lives of countless students and swimmers and was an inspiration to those he came in contact with; he was a dedicated mentor, tutor and teacher. He was an admired and successful coach, fielding many champions and leading his teams to numerous championships. He was an athlete, a trophied handball player, an avid runner. In retirement he travelled with his wife Jean, often to Mexico where he learned to speak Spanish. He enjoyed the outdoors, his many grandchildren and his sporty cars. When asked which part of his 87 years was the best, he responded "All of it!"

He is survived by five children; Mark (Laurie) Thorum, Troy (Leidy) Thorum, Susan (Sean) Frank, Christopher (Ritsuko) Thorum and Tommy (Mellanie) Thorum, and two by marriage; Debra (David) Ross and Kevin (Shannon) Hansen, (12) Grandchildren and (12) Great-Grandchildren. He passed peacefully with family at his side January 12, 2025 and is deeply missed. Happy Father's Day, Dad, thanks for everything!

There will be a Gathering in Remembrance, Sunday August 17, 2025 at the Salt Lake JCC, formerly the Fort Douglas Country Club.
